The Scots Guards welcomed two recruits in unusual surroundings as two Tayside men took their oath of allegiance.
David Cargill (17), from Arbroath, and James Morris (19), of Dundee, began their military careers on Tuesday in the home of an Invergowrie couple who have created a small museum to the regiment.
John and Elizabeth Hodge have gathered Scots Guards memorabilia for nearly 20 years, dedicating a section of their home to the historic army regiment.
Although usually held at the recruitment offices or town halls, the decision to hold the oath ceremony at the couple’s home was taken as a way of highlighting the regiments’ links with the local community.
Sergeant Sean Gibbs, a member of the local recruitment team, told The Courier, “I’ve visited John and Betty’s house before and it is a wonderful collection of items that they have.
“It was the perfect place to do the oath ceremony and gave these two young men an insight into the history and heritage of the regiment.”
