Tanned and with a few blisters, walkers on this year’s Dander for Mary completed their 70-mile tour of Fife Coastal Path in the shadow of Rosyth dockyard’s Goliath crane.

Dockyard owners Babcock welcomed Jim Leishman and his team, who were raising funds for the Mary Leishman Foundation, with a cheque for £15,000.

“It’s been great fun,” said Mr Leishman. “It’s a great walk.

“The weather’s been nice and we’ve just taken our time and taken in all the different areas.”

The team of around 30 set off from St Andrews on Thursday and have stopped off in Leven, Anstruther and Aberdour along the way.

Having stayed in Aberdour’s Cedar Inn on Saturday night, the walkers spent some time applying suncream and tending to sore feet before setting off on the final leg of their journey.

Mr Leishman added, “We had something organised for every night and people along the road have been generous.”

It is the third year running Mr Leishman has been joined by family and friends for the challenge in memory of his wife Mary, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009, aged just 53.

Among the aims of the foundation he set up in her memory are supporting local people suffering from debilitating illnesses and helping young, talented people achieve their full potential.
