Detectives are still waiting to question the man who may hold the key to the death of Longforgan mother-of-two Jane Cumming.
Her husband Neil (45) was said to still be unconscious and in a serious condition in Ninewells Hospital after his car collided with a lorry on the A90 on Friday.
Police confirmed they are treating Mrs Cumming’s death as murder following a post mortem examination, although they have refused to say how she died.
The body of the 40-year-old, who worked for Lloyds TSB in Dundee, was discovered by officers who went to the family home in Mary Findlay Drive two hours after the crash that left her husband gravely ill.
Officers have been trying to understand the events leading up the murder that has shocked residents of the Carse of Gowrie village.
They confirmed they believe there is a link between Mrs Cumming’s death and her husband’s crash, but have refused to go into any more detail.
A spokesman said, “Extensive door-to-door inquiries have been carried out across the village and detective officers have undertaken a trawl of private CCTV as they seek to piece together Mrs Cumming’s movements in the hours before her tragic death.
“The public response to police appeals for information has been encouraging but the inquiry team would still appeal to anyone who was in the Longforgan area, or who saw Jane on Thursday evening or Friday morning, to come forward.
“It is possible that Jane, either alone or with family, travelled to nearby Dundee to shop on Thursday evening. She may have been out and about in the village the following morning.”
The spokesman said Mr Cumming was of “significant interest” to the investigation.
“Ongoing inquiries will establish the full extent of the link, but at this time Tayside Police will not be drawn into speculation and advises against anyone making presumptions about the circumstances of what is a serious criminal investigation,” he added.
Police are appealing for a taxi driver who spoke to officers briefly in Mary Findlay Drive around 2pm on Friday to get in touch. He drove a black Peugeot people carrier. It is possible he may have seen or heard something in the area that could be of assistance to the investigation.
Anyone with any information about the murder is being asked to call 0300 111 2222.
