Shoeboxes filled with essential items have been flown out to Arbroath troops on the frontline in Afghanistan.
Following a request directly from theatre by Battery Sergeant Major Warrant Officer Class Two Pat Paterson, the people of Arbroath have donated various items that have been collated into welfare boxes.
The 7 Sphinx Commando Battery Royal Artillery, consisting of 90 men, are in Afghanistan, providing vital fire support and Royal Artillery expertise to 45 Commando.
The battery is commanded by Major Alan Johnston, Royal Artillery, who is also deployed.
The battery has formally thanked Superdrug area manager Julie Noble, Arbroath deputy store manager Michelle Paterson and all the staff who donated items at their own expense.
It shows the connection between the people of Arbroath and the units at RM Condor.
After a families coffee morning, wives and partners packed all the items into boxes provided by Shoe Zone in Arbroath, with 45 Commando family support worker Tammie Graham and community support worker Marianne Bowick.
Holly Cogan, the wife of Bombardier Daniel Cogan (a serving member of the battery), also arranged bespoke “air essentials packs” from the DCS Europe Group.
These and all the other items will be gratefully received by the men, who are living in austere conditions but remain determined and upbeat.
