A Kellas mum’s idea to create a stylish necklace that children can chew safely has just been given celebrity endorsement on Twitter.
Jenny McLaughlan developed her “gumigem” necklaces while her little boy spent the first six months of his life in and out of Ninewells Hospital.
Miller, whose first birthday was last week, had E. coli and meningitis but is now thankfully thriving, already on his feet and walking independently.
As the family were celebrating his birthday Jenny received a message from celebrity mum and TV presenter Denise Van Outen, thrilled with her gumigem necklace.
Tots are attracted to jewellery and most mums stop wearing necklaces to avoid them being grabbed and chewed by babies and small children. Jenny’s invention appeals to mums’ desire for fashion but is made with baby-friendly silicone as used to make teething rings.
Now it looks as if Jenny’s spare-time business is set to take off, with more and more people snapping up the child-friendly necklaces.
She usually gets around 30 hits a day to her website but the night Denise Van Outen tweeted about gumigem, there were 470 hits.
So Jenny, who also has a daughter Maisie (2), and a demanding day job, now has to cope with growing interest in her gumigems.
Shona Salmond at Montrose shop Not Just 4 Kidz is the first retailer to stock the necklaces. They are also available via Jenny’s website www.laughing-lamb-creations.co.uk
