Sympathy was expressed for the 81-year-old Arbroath woman who died after being involved in an accident with a bus in Dundee city centre.
Tayside Police are still conducting investigations into the circumstances of the collision in the Seagate, which involved a National Express Dundee 22 service bus.
Officers are yet to reveal the identity of the woman, who died from her severe injuries at the city’s Ninewells Hospital on Thursday night.
Arbroath councillor David Fairweather said his heart goes out to the woman’s family.
He added, “At a time like this there is not really much anyone can say other than to express deepest sympathies towards the lady’s family members.
“From what I have heard it was a tragic accident and must have been an extremely traumatic experience for everyone involved.”
Next of kin are yet to be informed, but uniformed officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries at firms and homes in the Seagate to establish the exact nature of events.
A police spokesman said, “Inquiries into the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing. We are still looking to speak to anyone who was on the bus or in the area.”
The pensioner had been crossing the busy Seagate near the rear of Marks & Spencer at around 3.20pm when the accident happened.
A crowd gathered and bystanders attempted CPR on the woman, who was was lying on the ground unconscious.
Emergency services arrived shortly afterwards and, after an assessment of her injuries, conveyed her directly to hospital.
A spokeswoman for National Express Dundee said, “An incident occurred at Seagate involving service 22.
“Ambulance and police attended and we are currently supporting them in their investigation.”
