A Glenrothes woman aims to embark on a fund-raising journey with a difference travelling from her home town to Kirkcaldy on a mobility scooter.
Donna Murphy (34) will take on the unusual challenge on Sunday to raise funds for her local community flat in the Auchmuty area of the town.
Volunteers at the flat, which is run by Auchmuty Tenants and Residents Association, have helped Donna over the past year at a time when she was struggling to find accommodation.
Now settled in a house in Glenrothes, disabled mum Donna wants to show her gratitude to everyone who has helped her by completing the drive from the CISWO in Glenrothes to the Top O’ The Toun pub in Kirkcaldy.
She said, “I’m doing it for the local community flat as the people there have really helped me out over the last year.
“I can’t take part in any of the sponsored walks that they have so I thought I would do it on my scooter.”
Although undertaking her journey in spring, Donna is undeterred by what is likely to be typical Scottish weather despite her scooter having no protection from the elements.
Collection tins have been placed throughout the town to help boost funds, and she believes that no matter how much money she raises, any recognition she can give to the community flat project is more than worthwhile.
“It’s there for everyone, not just those in need, and you can just pop in for a cup of tea and a blether,” continued Donna.
“They do lots of things and take people out on day trips as well as hosting a Christmas dance.
“It’s all done by volunteers and I just want to raise awareness of the work they do.”
