A kind-hearted Perthshire boy told his family he wanted to raise cash for Comic Relief after hearing the story of an African child who couldn’t afford an education.
Cian McCrickard (4), from Leetown, was shocked to learn that the little boy had to work long hours each day just to ensure he and his siblings had enough food.
The St Madoes nursery pupil decided he wanted to undergo a challenge, without losing Red Nose Day’s Do Something Funny For Money theme.
This week he walked from his grandparents’ house in Tayport across the Tay Road Bridge and back again €” complete with colourful balloons.
Two-year-old sister Beth also took part in the fund-raiser, which generated more than £230 in sponsorship.
Gran Liz said, “We are so proud of Cian €” he came up with the idea all by himself. He couldn’t believe the conditions this little African boy had to live in and was determined to raise money to help him have a better life and go to school.
“Lots of people sponsored him, including one woman we met halfway over the bridge. It was a lovely sunny day and, although he had tired feet afterward, Cian enjoyed every minute.”
