Heavy rain spoils Hiroshima commemoration on Dundee Law

Heavy rain meant only around 40 people attended a memorial on Dundee Law on Saturday to commemorate the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
The event was the 30th anniversary of the memorial, organised by the Dundee Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
Spokeswoman Edith Constable said the bombing and the follow-up attack on Nagasaki had been “terrible events” resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths.
The campaign is opposed to the UK Government’s plans to replace its submarine-launched Trident missiles.
Edith said, “We think it is a waste of money and it would be a terrible tragedy if any of those bombs were to be dropped.”
A memorial for the Nagasaki bombing will take place on the Law on Tuesday at 11am.
