The Scottish Government has battened down the hatches as the country prepared for more wintry weather.
Strong gales and more snow are expected to hit much of the country on Thursday morning.
Transport minister Keith Brown activated the multi-agency response team last night in anticipation of a repeat of the heavy snowfall that brought the country to a near standstill before Christmas.
The team, which includes operating companies, the police, Traffic Scotland and ScotRail, was set up after the snow.
More than 115 winter vehicles have also been put on standby.
“We are urging drivers to be aware of the forecast snowy conditions across parts of Scotland, and to heed police travel advice, planning their journeys in advance,” said Mr Brown.
“We are also expecting high winds, therefore we ask drivers to take extra caution when driving through exposed areas.
“The Traffic Scotland website will be providing updates throughout the night and into rush hour to make available the very latest information to drivers to this end.”
Mr Brown said he believes there will be no repeat of the whiteout that crippled the country in November and December.
He said, “Our multi-agency response team has been activated ahead of the forecast snow…
“In addition we are well prepared with over 455,750 tonnes of salt secured or on order across Scotland- compared to the 545,600 tonnes used from the start of winter to date.”
The Scottish Government’s Resilience Room has also been activated to manage the winter response with input from Scotland’s emergency services, SEPA, Transport Scotland, Road and Rail Operators.
Members of the Met Office have also joined SEPA staff in their Perth office to help co-ordinate the response to any flooding that may occur as a result of the weather.
