The chairman of housebuilding and construction group Galliford Try is stepping down with immediate effect.
The firm said Ian Coull’s sudden departure was due to “other business and personal commitments” and confirmed that it had prompted a temporary boardroom reshuffle.
Chief executive Greg Fitzgerald, who previously said he would retire before the end of next year, will step in as executive chairman up to no later than December next year.
He will continue to fulfil his existing executive responsibilities and ensure the group’s growth strategy is executed, while helping the nominations committee recruit a new chief executive.
Peter Rogers, non-executive director and senior independent director, will assume the role of interim deputy chairman, and the search for a replacement for him is under way.
Galliford Try is part of the consortium building the new Queensferry Crossing through its Scottish subsidiary Morrison Construction.
The company recently acquired Edinburgh-based Miller Construction in a £17.5 million deal.
