Two ex-Dunfermline High School pupils will set off on a charity hitch-hike covering 1200 miles.
Ben McNeil (20) and Adam Temple (19) heard about the event while studying at Edinburgh University and will travel from the Scottish capital through France, Spain and finally Morocco, using ferries for sea crossings.
The journey will be completed over two weeks, with proceeds raised going to Link Community Development, which helps to educate children in Africa.
Ben said, “I have wanted to do some kind of good deed for charity for a while now and to do something fun, exciting but also challenging.
“So this is why I planned to hitch-hike all the way from Edinburgh to Morocco all in the name of charity.
“It’s a journey of over 1200 miles travelling across the Channel, through France and down to the southern tip of Spain where you can get the ferry across to Africa.
“On average, it takes a week to get there, although there’s just no knowing how long it will take.”
He continued, “The charity I’m raising funds for is called Link Community Development and they work towards improving education for underprivileged children in Africa.Good work”My dad actually went on a teaching placement at a school in South Africa a couple of summers back and got to see the good work they do first hand.
“I’m still working on ideas of how to raise the money needed in order to go none of it goes towards the cost of my travelling but all to LCD itself.”
Adam said, “Basically after a fairly quiet summer, I wanted to do something a bit more productive with my spare time so have decided to do something useful for a change.
“Link Community Development focus on innovation and quality to ensure they get the most from every donation so it is a really worthwhile cause.”
Ben and Adam hope to raise around £1000 in total for the charity.
