The Courier is calling for the establishment of a fuel duty regulator to help minimise the impact of rocketing oil prices on Scotland.
The move comes amid growing concern over fuel costs, with petrol now over £1.30 a litre at many pumps.
The paper is backing proposals for a fuel duty regulator a Tory pledge at last year’s General Election which would cut the duty levied by the government when oil prices rise.
The reverse would happen when prices fall.
We believe this is the best way to ensure Scottish families and businesses are able to cope with rising fuel costs and keep the economy moving.
