Independence referendum time to make your mark

The waiting is over.

It is time to take stock. It is time to make your decision.

Today is the day we, the people of Scotland, decide the future of our country and the future of the United Kingdom.

Votes cast today will inevitably shape the lives of our children, their children and indeed all future generations.

The burden of responsibility lies heavily upon all our shoulders and each and every one of us has a duty to cast our vote.

There can be no excuse for not making your mark. Even those who feel disenfranchised by the political system must realise this is a unique occasion.

Today’s historic ballot is a once in a lifetime opportunity to vote for something bigger than a political party or leader we are voting for something that affects the very structure of our nation.

Before we go to the polling station we must stop and think.

We must understand what it is we are being asked to do. We are voting for the future of Scotland.

For many the decision will be easy. It will come from a conviction borne of years of certainty and belief in one or other side of the argument.

For others the choice will be less clear. Even as you walk into the polling station you may be wrestling with an agonising decision that sleepless nights and soul searching has not been able to reconcile.

This is not a vote about the SNP or the “English Tories”. It is not a protest vote as part of a class struggle.

The politicians who have fought this campaign will be gone in a few years. The decision we make today will be with us forever.

Today we ask you to vote for what you believe is the best future for Scotland and its people for all of us.
