Blair Castle 2014 proved third time lucky for Millie Ferguson and Waitwith Welsh Magic when they scooped the overall workers win.

Having won the class at the show each year since 2012, this is the first time they have been drawn forward to stand at the top of the final championship line-up.

Praising Graham Barclay’s testing courses across the section for having been built really well, judges Rodger James and Sarah Prior commended the pair for having jumped “beautifully”.

Waitwith Welsh Magic, a 17-year-old Welsh section A sired by Friars Sinsyr and out of Waitwith Windflower, had topped the not exceeding 122cm class, which yielded five clears.

“This is the third year in a row Millie has won this class, but she’s never been placed in the championship before,” said mum Sharon.

Welsh Magic and Millie arrived at Blair having qualified for the Horse of theYear Show with a win at the New Forest Show.

“The champion jumped beautifully and looked like it would stand up to a day’s hunting,” said Rodger.

“He’s a proper little Welsh, with bone and substance, and he really showed his character throughout the show,” added Sarah.

“He comes across as a very happy and jaunty little fellow.”

The reserve championsip was awarded to Julie Somervail’s home-bred Connemara stallion Bellindene Franklin, which topped the over143cm class with rider Jenny Christie.

The 13-year-old is sired by Garryhinch Prince and out of CocumViva Donna.

This year they were ridden supreme at Scottish Connemara Show and third in the working hunter class at the Royal Highland.
