As a fresh-faced five-year-old he was given valuable help getting to school by lollipop lady Eileen Alexander.
Now Alexander MacLeod from Dundee is repaying her kindness.
Eileen, 83, worked as a lollipop lady at Douglas Primary for more than 20 years and used to offer him sweets as he walked to school.
Now 31, Alexander is all grown up, but has kept in contact with Eileen for the last two decades.
He helps to look after her, particularly in recent years, as she suffers from diabetes as well as being affected by severe vertigo.
She does not have a full-time carer and relies on visits from her daughter, also Eileen, and Alexander.
Alexander said that after meeting regularly in the street during his trip to school, the pair became firm friends and he regularly visited her house.
He said: “We always seemed to bump into each other in the street, and then she asked me to come up for tea one day.
“After that it became a regular thing, and I always try to visit two or three times a week, or just whenever I can.
Eileen has praised Alexander for helping her and staying in touch for so long.
She said: “Alex has been there for me so much, I really appreciate it. It’s not every day you find someone so kind and helpful.
“I can only think of a brief period when he left primary school that we didn’t talk, he’s always been there for me. I can’t say enough good things about him.”
