Dundee jobs at new workshop of Mercedes-Benz dealer Western Commercial

Mercedes-Benz dealer Western Commercial has created 10 new jobs after opening a new workshop for the manufacturer’s commercial vehicles in Dundee.

The development on Ainslie Street, West Pitkerro Industrial Estate, represents a £750,000 investment by the franchisee for Scotland’s Central Belt, and there is the prospect of more new jobs as the business grows.

The firm was initially awarded its Mercedes-Benz franchise for Dundee in the summer of 2012 and has been operating from the Riverside Distribution Centre in the interim period.

The new site, which extends to an acre, was formerly used as a distribution centre by logistics giant Kuehne + Nagel and has been extensively refurbished and extended to serve its new purpose.

Western Commercial, which also handles sales and support of the FUSO Canter light truck range, said the new facility was capable of servicing a range of vehicle types and would be open into the night to allow a maintenance and repair service outside normal hours.

Dealer principal Andrew Smith said: “We’ve been searching since the day we won our Dundee franchise for the right location at which to open a fully equipped after sales facility in the city.”
