Tangerines in Perth getting excited about this Saturday’s match against Rangers may not sound unusual.
These die-hard fans are not in Perth and Kinross, though, but on the other side of the world. The Perth Arabs Western Australia Branch has more than 120 members and is reparing to paint the Aussies tangerine on Saturday.
“We’ll win by two goals in the first half, that is,” said the club’s founder, ex-Grove Academy pupil Keith Strachan. Despite this being the club’s first meeting, Mr Strachan believes plenty will turn out for the game.
He said: “We’re all planning to meet up at a local bar called the Brass Monkey that is playing the game. I’m not sure how many Arabs we can expect, but I imagine there will be a fair few.
“We’re a relatively young supporters club this will be our first real meeting.”
Other Tangerines in the club believe that the score could be as high as 5-0, although most are just excited to watch the game.
The group is just one of scores making special arrangements for Saturday’s clash. The London Arabs, previously known as the South London Tangerines, are sending avid members up from the capital.
The scramble to Ibrox follows news that eager Dundee United fans based in Tayside are having to hire coaches from as far afield as Hamilton to reach the match.
