The family of a Dundee grandfather who died after a collision with a tractor have paid tribute to the man they describe as a “treasure”.
Derrick Anderson, 61, from Broughty Ferry, was involved in a collision between his wife Judie’s red Vauxhall Astra and a tractor on the Coupar Angus to Dundee road section of the A923.
Judie, 60, was picking up her husband from his job as a Hoffman Presser at Blair’s Laundry and Dry Cleaners in Blairgowrie last Friday when the incident occurred and she was also taken to hospital.
The family gave an emotional tribute as they discussed Mr Anderson’s love for his family and his goodwill towards everyone.
Judie said: “Derrick was a treasure, a real diamond. He was such a genuine person and a really proud family man.
“He would give his right hand to help anybody, especially his family. He would do anything for anyone but he would always put us first.
“He would walk to the ends of the earth for us all. I don’t think it’s properly sunk in yet but I will, and we all will, really miss him being there for us.
“It’s been devastating,” she went on.
“It’s a total shock to us all. Anyone who knew him really loved him.”
Mr Anderson had lived in Dundee all his life and attended Grove Academy. He had three children Paul, Steven, and Lesley and was a grandfather to five.
Steven has travelled back from his home in Australia to be with his mother.
Family members described Mr Anderson as a big snooker fan who regularly played with friends on Sunday nights.
Paul said the lighter side of his father’s character is what attracted his friends to him.
He said: “From what he spoke of his friends, I know he will be sorely missed by them as well.
“His friends all thought he was funny he had a really dry sense of humour and that’s what we loved about him.
“He was a character who was loved by all. I know he will be sorely missed.”
