Dundee has been dealt a new jobs blow after the collapse of a major provider of support services to the unemployed.
A total of 39 staff permanent staff at Macalpine-based Claverhouse were made redundant with immediate effect following the appointment of provisional liquidators FRP Advisory this morning.
A further 13 workers on fixed-term contracts have also been let go.
The group, which operated as a social enterprise and charity through three companies, Claverhouse Group, Claverhouse Training and Claverhouse Services, was initially founded in 1981 and has been a key city provider of training and support to unemployed people.
Over the years it has developed partnerships with a range of bodies including local councils, colleges, economic development agencies and local charities.
Joint liquidator Tom MacLennan said: “Although Claverhouse has a long and proud record helping to train, support and place the unemployed in work, and had built an extensive network of partnership organisations across Tayside, the business is suffering from a reduction in income levels, is unable to finance the direct and overhead costs from operations and is therefore no longer financially viable.”
