A Dundee teacher has completed a swimming race between Asia and Europe to raise money for charity.
Jenni Stewart, head of geography at Dundee High School, completed the Bosphorus Cross-Continental Race, described as one of the world’s most challenging competitions of its kind, to fundraise for the Maggie’s Centre.
Jenni decided to take part in the race after her father was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Despite the huge accomplishment of completing the swim, Jenni says she is proudest of all the fundraising that has come out of it.
She said: “Maggie’s relies on funds generated by the public supporting them through fundraising initiatives and creating an opportunity to support them was something I felt strongly about after the supportive environment that was offered to my family.”
Almost 2,000 entrants from 52 countries swam the 6.5km course, which runs between the Asian and European sides of Istanbul.
Jenni completed the race in 1 hour 26 minutes, despite choppy waters, and raised more than £2,200 for the charity.
“The greatest challenge was navigating as this was unaided and key features along the river had to be used to sight the course,” she said.
The annual event is organised by the Turkish Olympic Committee and Jenni took a few dips in the Tay to prepare.
A spokesperson for Maggie’s said: “We are absolutely delighted.”
“We cannot thank her enough for her support.”
