VIDEO: Film-maker uncovers Broughty Ferry tale of the demon dummy

The first occupant of a luxury Broughty Ferry development may already be in residence – even if nobody could accuse it of actually living there.

Pupils and teachers a the former Eastern Primary School building in Broughty Ferry all recall a “possessed” tailor’s dummy called Henry that resided in a corridor in the former school building.

An online documentary about Henry’s residency at the school shows teachers reminiscing about how they would turn around to find the dummy had changed positions or outfits when they were not looking.

Although staff were never sure if Henry’s movements were just children playing pranks or genuine proof of the supernatural, Duncan Nicoll’s five-minute film makes for fascinating, albeit chilling, viewing thanks to some spooky graphics and music.

Duncan, a former pupil of Eastern Primary School, was making a film about an art project undertaken by pupils to mark their transition to their new building when he uncovered the spooky tale.

The pupils, with the help of local artists, were designing and making a gate for their new home.

But Duncan found himself so engrossed in the task that he wound up shooting lots of small films about the school, including a brief documentary about its supposed ghost,

“There was one guy we interviewed who started speaking about Hentry after we’ve stopped filming and I really wished we had kept the camera running,” said Duncan.

As he investigated further, Duncan discovered that Henry, and the corridor he allegedly resided in, were quite well-known.

“Former headteacher Doreen Elder said she didn’t know if it was pupils or not, but that it was always called the ‘spooky corridor’,” said Duncan.

Duncan’s documentary about Henry can be watched on YouTube along with a number of his other short films about Eastern Primary School.

If Henry is still stalking the corridors of the former school building, then he will be ready for some company.

The school lay empty for two years before being snapped up by developers Tor Homes.

Contractors Hadden were appointed following the collapse of Dundee firm Muirfield Contracts earlier this year.

The new flats will no doubt be quickly snapped but, will Henry still be hanging around?

Or has the dummy found a new home somewhere elsein Broughty Ferry?

Duncan’s Eastern Primary School documentary can be viewed below and more of his films are available here.
