A strong entry of junior Shetland ponies came forward at the Central Scotland Shetland Pony Group’s annual youngstock event.
The show at Caledonian Mart in Stirling was officiated by breed enthusiast Robert S Pitcairn, from Kirkintilloch.
Sweeping the board of the miniature entries was J and G Wilson’s three-year-old colt Myreton Dougal.
Sired by the Wilsons’ own stallion Myreton Talisman, he was home-bred out of Northwells Golden Dando, at Leys, Muckhart, by Dollar.
He was shown in the ring by champion young handler Lisa Wilson and had previously won his class last year at Tayside Foal Show and stood miniature champion at the 2012 Winter Fair.
Prior to those outings, he was first at the NPS youngstock show as a yearling, and was junior champion and reserve overall miniature as a foal at the Central Scotland Breed Show.
The Alichbrae Shetland Pony stud, founded by Stevie and Jackie Mckay in 2006, at Tigh-na-Beag, Crieff, lifted the miniature reserve title.
Their winner was the two-year-old filly Alichbrae Lady Primrose, which was foaled in April, out of North Wells Candie and sired by Merkisayre Dorvo.
In the standard ring Mr Pitcairn took Louise Wilson’s home-bred Cassindilly Jester through a clean sweep of classes to stand supreme.
Louise, who runs her Cassindilly stud from Ceres, bred the two-year-old colt from the Highfield Zeus-daughter Jasmine of Milton.
Jester, which was sired by Southfieldgate Valiant, and which will be retained at the stud, this year stood male champion at Perth and was reserve junior at the Royal Highland.
Broughty Ferry’s Ken and Anne Scott, of Braes of Kerryston, took the standard black reserve with their three-year-old filly Kerryston Nanette.
A recent recipient of the Janet Murray Memorial Award for the three-year-old season champions, Nanette has enjoyed numerous class wins through the summer agricultural show season, including at Ayr County.
Nanette, sired by Kerryston Kelly and home-bred out of Millhouse Emily, was champion standard black at the youngstock show last year.
She also won and stood foal champion at the same show as a foal in 2010.
As a yearling, she progressed to stand first at Neilston, third at the NPS Youngstock show, and was reserve champion at the Tayside Foal Show.
Eileen Carlyle’s yearling Dryfesdale Diamond Jubilee took the coloured standard tricolour.
This filly, which previously won at Westmorland County Show, is sired by Thor of Hutton and was bred out of Dryfesdale Good Hope.
The Wilsons won the coloured reserve with another of their home-bred fillies, Myreton Georgie.
