Firefighters rushed to a Dundee petrol station after a car fire raged just yards from the fuel pumps.
A red BMW was engulfed in flames at the Shell Garage, near Dundee’s Olympia Swimming Pool.
The car came to rest near the fuel pumps and just a few steps from pipes connecting to underground tanks containing tens of thousands of litres of fuel.
Dozens of onlookers watched as firefighters used hose reels to tackle the blaze before it could spread.
The garage was sealed off during Friday’s fire, while one lane was closed on the East Marketgait to allow the Scottish Fire and Rescue service access.
A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We received the call of a car on fire at 1.10pm at Shell Discovery.
“Two applicances, one from Blackness Road and one from Balmossie, were sent to the scene.
“There was a fire in the engine compartment of the car and crews used hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.
“The fire was dampened down at 1.29pm and members of the crew checked under the bonnet to unsure it was completely out.”For more on this story, see Tuesday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
