New car sales in Tayside and Fife rocketed by up to 50% last month.
Dealerships in Tayside saw sales spike by 49.8%, with 1,231 new registrations compared to 822 in April last year.
Fife enjoyed a similar boost, with sales up from 603 to 871 a 44.4% rise.
Across Scotland, new car sales rose 26.6% for April, from 12,141 to 15,369.
Scotland outperformed the UK as a whole, which posted a 14.8% increase, with 163,357 units sold.
Scottish Motor Trade Association CEO Douglas Robertson said: “Private demand has increase by 33% over April 2012, confirming that consumer confidence is returning. We are currently running at 13.7% ahead of last year.”
