A Herculean effort by the NPS Scotland committee ensured the show went ahead after a logistical access problem to the site only three days before the show almost forced the cancellation.
This year, with T in the Park due to take place on the usual field at Strathallan Castle, the estate kindly allowed a field near Gleneagles Equestrian Centre to be used.
Young James Houlden, from Strathearn Eventing, in Perthshire, lifted the supreme working hunter title with his much garlanded mare Pontsarn Sidan.
The 16-year-old Welsh section A mare impressed judges Madge Taylor and Caroline Nelson to lift the overall after heading the not exceeding 122cm open class and the open championship.
Reserve supreme was Christine Myles from Kirkcaldy with Passford Showgirl. Ridden by Anna Wylie, Passford Showgirl came to the supreme after lifting the novice championships via winning the not exceeding 133cms class. The nine-year-old Welsh section C mare is by Paravaden Replay and out of Barwoods Victoria.
Gwen Rae from the Nicholwalls Stud in Carron Valley, Stirlingshire, had a memorable day, winning the supreme M&M in-hand championship and silver medal award with Nicholwalls Black Jack and the supreme ridden title with Bracklinn Melissa.
Nicholwalls Black Jack, a three-year-old colt, came to the final supreme after being judged Fell champion.
This season has already stood champion at Central and West Fife and Ayr, while last year was reserve supreme in-hand at Ayr.
Bred in the purple Black Jack’s sire Bracklinn I’m Yer Man is a former Royal Highland Show champion and out of Bracklinn Black Beauty.
The reserve supreme in-hand was Sue Williamson from Eskside Pony Stud, Justinhaugh, Forfar, with Mollucas Royal Anise. The two-year-old gelding, by Sedgelands Masquerade and out of Kitty Kelly, was fourth in the Cuddy in-hand final at last year’s Horse of the Year Show.
There was further success for Gwen when Black Jack’s older full sibling, the six-year-old mare Bracklinn Melissa was supreme ridden, partnered by Chris MacMillan.
The ridden reserve supreme was Katie Common’s Welsh section C Maerton Welsh Magic.
Lifting the Strathlane Trophy for the best mountain and moorland pony bred by exhibitor was the Shetland pony champion Roseljord of Transy, shown by Sarah Ross, from the Transy Stud, near Dollar.

CONNEMARA Alison Grainger, with Castle Diceman, a four-year-old stallion by Glencarrig Knight and out of Dooneen A lice, bred in Ireland by Henry O’Toole. HIGHLAND J&KDykes,with Islesman of Mendick, a home-bred three-year-old colt by Moss-side Iain Mor and out of Gissings Luscardene. Champion at the National Stallion Show in 2015, reserve at NPS Summer in 2014. Reserve: Aileen Curle with Harris of Mendick, a four-year-old licensed stallion by Dougal of Mendick and out of Clover of Mendick and will be a future ridden pony. Youngstock champion at NPS Scotland Blair finals in 2014.
WELSH SECTION A Lorna and Adam Shaw, with Islyn Hufen, a six-year-old cream mare, sired by Lacy Buzbee and out of Islyn Hyder, bred by Mrs Sip Jones. Champion at Central and West Fife. Reserve: Gartconnel Stud, with Gartconnel Wild Fire, a six-year-old mare by Gartconnel Shooting Star and out of Gartconnel Waterlily. Last year champion at the Great Yorkshire and Royal Cornwall shows. Youngstock: L and A Shaw’s Rushiefauld Saffron, a home-bred three-year-old filly by Islyn Atom and out of Islyn Sofren. Reserve: Leanne Dryburgh’s Forlan Catrin, a yearling filly by Eppynt Superstar and out of Forlan Honey Delight.
WELSH SECTION B Lynneann Cameron, with Cadlan Valley Georgie Boy, a four-year-old palomino stallion, sired by Newtonhill Naughty Boy and Cadlanvalley Georgette. Supreme in-hand at NSWPCA. Reserve and youngstock champion: Lorna Shaw, with the yearling Rushiefauld Psalm. Reserve youngstock: Eleanor Crate, with Dunaskin Gimli, a home-bred yearling, sired by Skellorn Graffiti and out of Dorgain Vellissa. Supreme youngstock champion at the Scottish and Northern Welsh show, reserve at Puddledub youngstock.
WELSH SECTION C AND D Beth Hill, with Llanllugan Mike’s Lad, a 13-year-old Welsh section D stallion, sired by Cascob Braveheart and out of Llansantffraed Kirsty.
