Sports fans hoping to book a spot at the Commonwealth Games have been urged not to leave their ticket requests until the last minute, as organisers pointed out that there are just 10 days left until applications close.
Glasgow 2014 bosses said they have received applications for hundreds of thousands of tickets for seats at the 17 sports on offer over 11 days at next summer’s Games.
Organisers are “enthused” by the high level of interest shown by the public since ticketing opened on August 19, but they urged people who have still to apply not to leave it until the final whistle.
They have published a further ticketing update to guide applicants through the process and outline the best chances of securing a seat.
It reveals that cycling, aquatics, artistic gymnastics, shooting and triathlon are the sports where demand is very likely to outstrip supply. In such cases, a simple draw will be used to allocate tickets.
Those looking for the best chance of getting a seat are advised to consider bidding for tickets for the early rounds of sports such as boxing and judo.
Opting for mid-level price categories in high-demand sports like gymnastics may also result in tickets, as could going for sports in larger venues, such as rugby sevens.
There may also be a good chance of getting tickets for sports played over several days, such as badminton, table tennis, netball and lawn bowls.
Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive Ty Speer said: “We’re really enthused by the continued high demand across all sports and ceremonies and are focused on ensuring everyone who wants to experience the excitement of the Games can make the ticket choices that are right for them.
“With 10 days to go until the end of the application phase, my advice to people who want to be part of this great sporting occasion is to give yourself time to explore the opportunities and enjoy making your choices. Don’t leave it to the last minute.”
Overall, up to one million tickets are available for the Games, the biggest sporting and cultural event Scotland will ever have hosted. Applications close at 6pm on Monday September 16 and two-thirds of tickets are priced at £25 or less.
Mr Speer said: “Of course, everyone is free to apply for all tickets to all sports and ceremonies until September 16. Today’s progress report is simply indicative of where demand is most intense and where best opportunities of successful ticket applications lie.”
Ticket requests for all sports and ceremonies can be made via glasgow2014.com/tickets or by sending a postal application form.
