DOUNE AND DUNBLANE: Perthshire rider reigns despite the rain

Rhydspence Ambassador - Amelia England
Rhydspence Ambassador - Amelia England

Torrential overnight rain made the organisers of Doune and Dunblane Show delay the start of the show for an hour to allow the rain to pass and to give competitors extra time for parking on the Kier Mains showfield.

Perthshire rider Amelia England accounted for three championships over the day when her two ponies Rhydspence Ambassador and Plas Lleweln Llwyd were successful in their respective working hunter classes.

Rhydspence Ambassador won the mountain and moorland working hunter championship, judged by Jo Jack and Marguerite Osborne, before accounting for the plaited working hunter championship, judged by Aly Boswell and Pat Stirling.

The 13-year-old Welsh section B gelding has been part of the England family, based at Methven, for six years, initially with older sister Isabella before Amelia, 12, took over the ride this year.

The Strathearn Pony Club members have certainly been rewarded for their consistency this year with wins at Fife, Ayr and the Royal Highland Show, and they have now qualified for the Horse of the Year Show and the Royal International Horse Show.

Amelia’s third championship came in the mini working hunter section with Plas Lleweln Llwyd, a seven-year-old Welsh section A gelding.
