Dozens of people in Tayside have fallen victim to bank card theft and have had tens of thousands of pounds stolen from their accounts.
Figures show that in just more than a year, between January 2014 and February this year, 84 crimes involving bank card machines were recorded.
Police say more than £50,000 was stolen in these crimes. Two of the offences were by children.
He said: “There are cases where a bank card has been stolen and used to make a withdrawal, cases where a skimming device has been used to obtain card details and others where a bank card has been fraudulently obtained in someone else’s name and used to make a withdrawal.”
The spokesman said 34 of the crimes were detected. He said in the majority of cases the accused was reported to the procurator fiscal.
The figures show that the combined amount stolen was £55,111.99.
