Following a two-year absence from the show ring Mr Cloudy swept to the top of the supreme championship at the World Horse Welfare Show at Brechin.
Fresh from his veteran championship win the previous day at Kirrie Show, the 20-year-old show pony defied his age to skip around the ring in partnership with young jockey Annabelle Brooks.
His win topped off an emotional weekend for the Brooks family, who said they were simply glad to have Mr Cloudy back out again and fighting fit following a prolonged bought of laminitis.
“I’d like to pay credit to the amazing work of the vets at Thrums and to the Balfour blacksmiths who are really the reason that Cloudy is still with us,” said Terri.
“They really deserve a huge amount of credit for all their efforts.
“It has been a long two years in Cloudy’s recovery and at times we did worry that he might not still be here with us but we couldn’t be more happy that he is back on the go again.”
Mr Cloudy, who has unknown breeding but has been with the Brooks family from nearby Kirriemuir for a number of years, has a raft of former championships from the show ring to his credit.
On one of his last show outings, he achieved the supreme plaudits from the Brechin Autumn Show, in 2012, having stood pony champion and having amassed wins across the junior equitation, turnout and ridden pony classes.
Prior to this Mr Cloudy had stood as the overall best pony at Kirrie Show in 2011, having also stood supreme champion of the same show in 2010.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Robertson rose through the ranks with Shabana Excellaya as overall Arab and part-bred champions to take the reserve supreme title.
Excellaya, an 11-year-old mare, sired by the thoroughbred stallion Excellente, was bred out of the Arab mare Shanaba Maya.
She recently won the ridden Arab and part-bred championship at Alyth Show, was overall Arab and part-bred at Angus, reserve supreme at Kingsbarn and champion at both Stonehaven and at Inchcoonans Spring.
The previous weekend, Excellaya also won the Capitall Quinn ridden two tone trophy at the Scottish Coloured Show, which was held outside Dundee, at Wellbank.
The 2014 World Horse Welfare Show was celebrated as the last under the leadership of organiser Heather Bowman.
Having raised more than £1,500 for the charity from this year’s show, Heather bows out having amassed more than £45,000 in charitable donations in aid of World Horse Welfare by running the annual event. At the close of the show, she was
presented with gifts and flowers to mark her significant achievement. Confessing that she felt “totally overwhelmed” by the gesture of those who had helped her over the years, Heather paid credit to the exhibitors, judges, stewards and volunteers who support the charity.
“Thank you so much to everyone. It truly is the competitors that make the show such a success,” she said.
