Schoolkids could be surfing across City Quay if new plans to create a wakeboarding centre in Dundee get the go-ahead.
Dundee City Council has been approached by a social enterprise company, Foxlake Scotland, to create a wakeboarding centre at the western end of Victoria Dock.
Wakeboarding has been described as a cross between surfing, water skiing and snowboarding.
Cable wakeboarding is one of the world’s fastest growing watersports.
Wakeboarders are pulled over the surface of a lake or other body of water using an overhead cable. They can also be towed by boats.

The idea is included in a recent fly-through concept video of the new waterfront.
Dunbar is currently Scotland’s only wakeboarding centre run as social enterprise.

This means it is used by schools and community groups and is used as a training base for unemployed young people who want to learn outdoor adventure skills.
The plan is part of a proposed redevelopment of City Quay that would also see the Unicorn put in dry dock as the centrepiece of a maritime museum. For more on this story, see Wednesday’s Courier or try our digital edition.
