The family of a Mearns man killed in a motorcycle accident have told how his partner was tragically killed in a road accident last year.
Eion MacDonald from St Cyrus died when his Triumph was involved in a collision with a Seat Alhambra on the A92 north of the village on Sunday night.
The 38-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 57-year-old driver of the car was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The tragedy happened a little more than a year after Lynsey Cargill, 35, died on the B954 Meigle to Dundee road when her motorcycle collided with a Ford Focus.
Ms Cargill, originally of Johnshaven, was sitting a compulsory basic training test when the crash took place on February 24, 2014.
The couple are survived by their two young children, Eoghan and Eilidh.
A family statement released by police said: “It is with great sadness that this has happened to our family unit, something that would be tragic for any family to bear.
“Eion was a valued family member who will be sadly missed by all.He loved life and his children. We will never forget him.
“This is all the more tragic for us as Eion’s partner was killed in a motorcycle accident in February 2014.
“We ask that we are given peace to grieve together as a family in this difficult time. Sleep tight Eion.”
Mr MacDonald was a contracts manager for Laurencekirk firm Peterkin Homes.
Managing director Vic Peterkin worked with Mr MacDonald for 15 years and said the team had lost “a dear friend”.
He said: “We at Peterkin Homes are all truly devastated at the loss of Eion.
“Eion was hugely liked and well respected by colleagues, customers and suppliers.
“More than that, he was our dear friend.
“Our hearts and sympathies go to his young children.
“We all feel the loss of Eion enormously, but that is not even on a par with what his family will feel.”
Mearns councillor George Carr said: “It is a real tragedy for the family and his friends and work colleagues.
“My heart goes out to them.It is very much a close-knit community there.
“Something like this reverberates throughout the Mearns.”
