Despite some seeing a bit of snow over the weekend, Courier Country is set to be hit by wind and rain for the next couple of days, with the MET office issuing a severe weather warning for Central, Tayside and Fife.
Gusts of up to 60mph can be expected to play havoc with those festive travellers trying to get in some last minute shopping or visiting loved ones.
The severe weather conditions could also affect rail travel, with East Coast trains warning that speed restrictions could be put in place depending on the weather.
However, on Christmas Day there could be a hint of sunshine breaking through as winds die down.
Met Office forecaster Dave Clark said: “There will be another period of rain late this evening into the early hours of Christmas Eve.
“Behind that the weather will cool off and there is a good chance of widespread ice through into the early hours of Tuesday.
“There is a low pressure area moving up the west coast on Tuesday and even over on this side of the country we are looking at gale force winds with gusts of up to 60mph.
“Thankfully these will be more southerly over the Tay Bridge rather than going across it. Some higher routes are also not going to be pleasant to travel on with these winds,” he said.
Scotland has been judged to be the best bet for some snow on the big day.
Mr Clark added: “Christmas day itself in the east is actually one of the better days.
“The winds start to ease throughout the day and it’s looking as if it will be dry with reasonable sunshine.
“It will be peaceful on Christmas and Boxing Day but then we will have another wet and windy spell of weather on Friday.”
