Dundee’s new Malmaison hotel has remained decidedly closed, despite being scheduled to open on Sunday.
The boutique hotel cancelled all bookings, including a 170-seat reservation for Dundee FC’s 120th anniversary dinner, after flooding damaged 15 bedrooms last week.
Speaking on Thursday, sales manager Phyllis Wilkie said: “We do not anticipate [the flooding] affecting the opening this weekend and, if that changes, we will certainly be letting the public know.”
However, the hotel remained locked and appeared deserted on Sunday, with cherry-pickers clearly visible in the hallway.
Despite repeated attempts by the Courier to contact Malmaison Dundee, the chain had not responded to a request for comment by the time of going to press.
It remains unclear when the hotel will open, but according to the Malmaison Dundee website, it is not possible to book a room at the new hotel until next year.
The flooding at the 120-year-old building was reported on Thursday morning after water was seen running down the side of the hotel.
Five firefighters were at the scene for more than an hour and said the flooding had been caused by an eletrical fault.
Malmaison have spent £15 million renovating the former Tay Hotel. They have taken out a 35-year lease on the building, with the option to extend it for a further 35 years.
