A Montrose father and his daughter are gearing up to run the London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support a cause close to their hearts.
After 10 years of cheering on her dad Stuart (50), Laura Walker (28) has finally risen to the challenge and will be joining him in Sunday’s race.
Laura, who now lives in east London, will be donning the lycra in memory of Edith Low and her uncle Kenny who recently passed away from cancer.
For Stuart this will be his 20th Marathon and his 10th in London. He will be running in memory of his sister’s husband Kenny Mobray who lost his life to cancer recently.
As this is his 10th London Marathon Stuart is also running in memory of his dad who died 10 years ago.
Laura said, “I’ve watched my dad and lots of other amazing people run it for the past 10 years.
“I enjoy swimming in the local ‘Lido’ and ride everywhere on my squeaky bike around the London streets, but running has never been my strong point.
“In fact I was very happy to have my name in the top 20 a couple of times in the cross country running while I was still at school as a teenager.”People can sponsor Stuart or Laura at www.justgiving.com/stuart-d-walker and www.justgiving.com/laurawalker2011.”One in three of us will get this horrible disease in our lives,” said Stuart.
“Having witnessed the support the Macmillan teams have provided for loved ones and their families, we will be grateful for any pennies or pounds donated. Every little helps.”
People can pay by credit or debit card, and the money will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support. Where supporters are UK taxpayers, the charity will automatically receive 28% extra in Gift Aid.
