Dundee College and Angus College are joining forces in the Race for Life this weekend, in anticipation of their merger later this year.

Nearly 70 women are joining the merged college team to support Cancer Research UK. Some are taking part in the 5k race with the more adventurous tackling the 10k, both of which take place on Sunday.

Television presenter Lorraine Kelly, who lives in Dundee, is also taking part in the race, which is one of five taking place across Scotland before the end of June.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is a women-only series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research.

Last year, more than 35,000 women across Scotland took part in 5k and 10k events, raising £2.36 million.

As well as wearing specially-commissioned T-shirts for the day, the combined college team has a new mascot in the shape of Martha, a 21-month-old bulldog.

Martha will be taking part in the 10k race alongside the new college team.

Angus College depute principal Jackie Howie, who is taking part in the 5k race, said: “In the past I have raced with the Angus College team, but I’m looking forward to taking part in this new joint team.”
