Angus is set for a major jobs boost after the oil and gas arm of energy giant GE revealed a fresh $15 million investment in its Montrose plant.
The funding commitment is expected to lead to as many 120 new skilled roles at the factory, which makes subsea tree valve systems used by platform operators, over the next two years.
The Brent Avenue facility is already growing, with a total of more than 50 new posts expected to have been added to the workforce once an ongoing round of recruitment is complete.
News of the additional investment was revealed as finance secretary John Swinney officially opened a $16m extension to the factory. The increased floorspace and new machinery will allow GE to boost its capacity and capabilities by an expected 40%.
Taken together, the two rounds of investment are expected to result in a near-trebling of the workforce inside three years.
GE Oil & Gas Subsea Systems chief executive Rod Christie said the commitment had been prompted by an “unprecedented” rate of activity in difficult to reach oil and gas fields, and hailed the dedication of the plant’s staff.
