A mother who defied the odds by becoming pregnant with her third set of twins has given birth to girls.

Karen Rodger, 41, and husband Colin, 44, from Langbank in Renfrew-shire were “over the moon” to welcome Rowan and Isla into their family on Wednesday at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

The girls, who are not identical, were delivered by caesarean section with Rowan arriving first at 11.21am weighing 5lbs 8oz followed two minutes later by Isla weighing 6lbs.

The couple already have four boys, Lewis and Kyle age 14 and Finn and Jude age 12, and were told it was a 500,000-1 chance that Mrs Rodger’s third pregnancy would be twins.

“I just could not believe it. It never crossed my mind that it would be twins again, I thought that just doesn’t happen to people like me but I’m absolutely delighted,” said the dance lecturer.

Mr and Mrs Rodger decided not to know the sex of the babies before they were born and were delightfully surprised with girls.

“I’m absolutely over the moon it’s girls, it’s definitely a good journey ahead.”
