A satellite village will host about 500 Commonwealth athletes and officials in Tayside next summer.
Of the 71 Commonwealth countries, 40 are participating in the shooting competitions at the 2014 games and will be accommodated in Dundee and Carnoustie, bringing a huge boost to the area.
The village will be spread across two luxury hotels, the Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee, 11 miles from the Barry Buddon competition venue, and Carnoustie Golf Hotel, just three miles away.
The four-star hotels will cater for athletes taking part in the four shooting events full-bore, clay target, pistol and small bore rifle, from July 13 to July 30.
A “home away from home” environment will be provided for the sportsmen and women during their stay, with a high level of service and use of spa, pool and meeting facilities at the venues.
Andrew Holland, general manager of satellite village operations for the games, said the village promises to give athletes the Scottish welcome organisers are hoping for.
He said: “It is really great to see the appetite for being involved in the games spread throughout the country.
“The games will be broadcast to a worldwide audience which will enhance the current good work being done in Dundee with the City of Culture bid as well as the massive waterfront project.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the area to really sell itself. The games will also boost the local economy with thousands of spectators, as well as athletes’ families and supporters staying in the area.”
Only the athletes and their team officials will be able to stay in the village itself, which will be secured by games staff.
Mr Holland added: “The athletes will really be able to relax and enjoy the experience. They have been training for these events all their lives and we want to make their stay as stress free as possible.”
Angus Provost Helen Oswald said: “The XX Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 will be Scotland’s biggest ever sporting and cultural event and Angus is delighted to be a host venue.
“Spectators, athletes and games officials can look forward to a warm welcome from everyone in Angus and we look forward to sharing our rich heritage with them.”
Dundee Lord Provost Bob Duncan said: “I am pleased that the city is going to play host to competitors from all over the Commonwealth, giving us a chance to showcase Dundee and its many attractions.
“I am sure that they will have a positive experience while they’re here and take home some great memories of the city and its people.”
Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said: “We are pleased that in addition to the shooting competition being held at the Barry Buddon range we have managed to secure accommodation venues which reflect the world class standard of athletes we have participating.
“Our discussions with all the accommodation providers in both Dundee and Carnoustie have been excellent and we look forward to growing these relationships between now and July next year.”
Commonwealth Games minister Shona Robison said: “It’s a great boost for Dundee and Carnoustie. This is the biggest village outside Glasgow and thousands of spectators are expected, so it’ll provide a boost to the local economy and is a huge opportunity to showcase the best of Dundee and Angus to visitors from around the Commonwealth.”
Applications for tickets for the shooting are open until September 16. Prices start at £15 for adults (half price for concessions).
