A council has been accused of “lacking compassion” in the way they have dealt with budget cuts and staff losing their jobs.
Reacting with dismay at decisions made during Stirling Council’s budget meeting, Green councillor Mark Ruskell said: “The huge numbers of council staff facing cuts who flooded the council chamber to hear the debate have been treated with neither openness nor compassion.
“The figure set by the council for reducing the cost of employment has been a moving target, escalating way beyond what the unions were working hard to help implement.
“Arts organisations were only offered explanations about their cuts on Facebook a couple of hours before the vote, rather than a genuine dialogue on a way forward.”
Mr Ruskell was also angered by the fact that the Lord Provost will retain his costly chauffeur-driven executive Mercedes for the year, while bus services to the rural network will be slashed following a cut of more than a quarter to the public transport subsidy budget.
