Ice cream businessman Michael Esposito dies aged 86

Dundonian ice cream maker Michael Esposito has died aged 86.
Born in St Peter’s Street on June 17 1926, he was the oldest of five siblings. He worked with his mother at the family’s ice cream shop in Peddie Street and also helped his father at his fish and chip shop.
He went on to run ice cream vans before making his own ice cream which he sold from a shop in Dundee where he proudly displayed his diploma which was awarded for “ices”.
Following the death of his wife Mamie in 1977, Michael worked for Casanova Ices, driving their vans until he retired. He was co-founder of Club Romano, West Wynd, Dundee, and well known for playing accordion.
As an adult Mr Esposito was the anchor man in the tug o’ war at the sports day for Italians in Scotland at Cochrane Park, Alva.
He died at Moyness Nursing Home in Broughty Ferry.
Michael is survived by his daughters Angela and Ginerva, his grandchildren, Craig, Eion, Kevin and Jennifer, and great-grandchildren Connagh, Tyler and Dominic.
