City’s £1bn waterfront plans promise hundreds of jobs
ByThe Courier Reporter
COURIER COUNTRY is in line for a jobs boost as work on the £1 billion regeneration of Dundee’s waterfront reaches a critical stage.
Officials yesterday said the project was on the brink of reaching a major economic milestone with almost £500 million of inward investment half of the total required now committed to the project just 11 years into the 30-year redevelopment.
The scheme, which takes in five development zones stretching eight kilometres from Invergowrie in the west to the far reaches of Dundee Port in the east, will create more than 100 jobs next year and sustain more than 500 posts in total during the year.
The transformation of the waterfront is seen as central to the city’s future economic strategy and includes buildings such as the £45 million Victoria and Albert project at Craig Harbour and the £14 million redevelopment of Dundee railway station where a new hotel will be created.
