A former player’s son is appealing for information about two Fife junior football teams.
Tom McDonald, of Hucknall in Nottinghamshire, is trying to locate players and their relatives as he looks back at the career of his father, Willie, who turned out for Blairhall Colliery Junior FC and Crossgates Primrose FC in the 1930s.
He told The Courier his father did not talk much of his football days but he has established he played alongside former Dunfermline FC player Pat Wilson, Charlie Fleming and George Niven.
He said, “I was told that there was some interest from Hearts at one time but he decided that he would have earned more money in his own job at HMS Caledonia than playing football for a big team.”
Mr McDonald’s father lived in Dunfermline and Rosyth. He died in 1994 but Tom is keen to establish if any of his former team-mates or their relatives can shed any light on the teams his father played for.
He said, “I have these photographs of my dad during his playing career with Blairhall and Crossgates but I don’t have details of all of the other players. I also have a signed book from former Blairhall players and one of the signatures looks like Henry Mowbray, who played for Cowdenbeath and then Blackpool.”
