A businessman hoping to raise £1 million for charity by running 66 ultra-marathons in 66 days completed the Dundee leg of his challenge on Saturday.
Andy McMenemy (49), the son of a former soldier, is running the ultra-marathons on consecutive days in each of the 66 official UK cities to raise awareness and funds for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
Mr McMenemy set off from Camperdown Wildlife Centre at 9am on Saturday to complete the ultra-marathon, which is 31.07 miles (50km) 5.5 miles (8.9km) longer than a standard marathon, in City Square around 3.30pm.
Saturday’s was his 60th and he said, “I welcome anyone who wishes to show their support on this leg of my marathon journey to help The Soldiers’ Charity continue their fantastic work.”
Members of the Angus and Dundee Army Cadet Force will fund-raise in City Square, while Mr McMenemy runs.
Dundee’s lord provost John Letford presented cadets with new banners, before Mr McMenemy arrived.
There was later a civic reception, and Mr Letford said, “Dundee is proud to support him, and the armed forces, and do what we can to help raise money for them.”
