A monster of an effort by a team from Spar Scotland’s head office in Dundee has raised more than £23,600.
The 10-person team took part in the recent Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike over the 73 miles of the Great Glen Way between Fort William and Inverness.
The team visited Dundee Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre this week to hand over the money they have already gathered, pointing out that this was probably not the final donation.
“People are still handing money in,” said Sharon Methven, team member and marketing executive in Spar Scotland’s head office in Dundee.
One of the biggest boosts to the fund-raising effort came from customers of Spar shops across Scotland.
“We got about £13,000 from collection boxes we had in the stores,” she said. “Individually, the team has also had amazing support from friends and family who gave donations, and from all our suppliers.
“We were astonished by the amount we raised.”
