A kilted pensioner who trekked from London to Auchtermuchty to pay tribute to the late Sir Jimmy Shand has been given a warm welcome to Fife.
Londoner John Dodd (66) regularly walks for charity, and decided to honour the musician whose music he fell in love with when he saw him in Newcastle in 1961.
On Wednesday, the retired film extra arrived in the Fife village where Sir Jimmy lived and met his son Jimmy Shand Junior, who is also a musician.
The 460-mile ramble raised more than £500 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Demelza Hospice Care for Children, the Prostate Cancer Charity and Blue Cross.
Mr Dodd said, “It has gone remarkably well and my feet are fine. I have an extremely comfortable pair of leather boots I bought in a charity shop which have been marvellous.”
Dressed in his family tartan of Hamilton and carrying a shepherd’s crook, Mr Dodd set off on April 21 and collected cash along the way.
