Dunfermline FC legend Jim Leishman has set off on an 80-mile walk to raise money for a charity set up in memory of his late wife.

The Pars director of football established the Mary Leishman Foundation following her death in February last year after a brave battle with cancer.

Jim has since been involved in a series of events to raise money for the charity, including walking the Fife Coastal Path, walking on fire at a charity stunt at East End Park and a golf trip to Murcia in Spain with various celebrities.

On Thursday, he was joined by around 40 people as he set off from the Glen Gates in Dunfermline on a four-day ‘Dander for Mary’ walk that will take him over the Clackmannanshire Bridge, down to the Forth Road Bridge, up to Aberdour and then back to Dunfermline.

During the walk the Courier sports columnist has planned a series of social events, including karaoke and barbecue.

He said the send-off in Dunfermline was “fantastic” and praised the turnout.

“There was a great amount of people at the Glen Gates, it was brilliant,” he said.

“We have around 40 people walking with us today, including former Dunfermline player John Watson.”
