Police are hunting a youth after a spate of fires in Kinross which they believe could be linked.

In the most recent incidents a charity clothing bin was found ablaze at Kinross Primary School at 8.45pm on Boxing Day and on Tuesday night three cars and a derelict building were found alight.

The first two vehicle fires on Tuesday occurred about 5pm in the area of Station Road and Lomond Mews, with the third near the Green Hotel about 6.40pm. A derelict building in Pier Road was the target about 8.15pm.

As the emergency services arrived at the Green Hotel fire a boy described as 5ft 9in, aged 15-16 and wearing a black jacket with grey hoodie underneath was seen acting suspiciously and running off.

The incidents are the latest in a series of suspicious fires in Kinross over the past couple of weeks.

On Friday, three cars and a wheelie bin near the High Street and Old Causeway were set on fire and badly damaged between 7.30pm and midnight.

The fires are believed to be linked to two other vehicle fires in Kinross in the past fortnight.

Chief Inspector Bryan Knight said: “The public of Kinross are a very respectable and close-knit community and I am sure that they will assist in bringing the person or persons responsible for these crimes to justice.

“We have had extra officers patrolling in the town but we are asking the residents of Kinross to work with us. Someone must know who is responsible and parents can be proactive in checking with their children as to who is setting these mindless fires.”

Anyone with any information on any of the incidents should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any officer.
