Since Montrose Museum opened in 1842, it has received many thousands of intriguing objects to help make up its fascinating collection.
Despite being closed for renovation works, it is still receiving donations the most recent being from the Rev Alan White who travelled from Aberystwyth to present a Jacobite glass that has been in his family for generations.
The glass was used by the donor’s grandfather James Cowie, of Fettercairn, to toast the family every Boxing Day.
Exactly 48 years to the day after it was last used by Mr White to toast his parents on their golden wedding anniversary, it was donated to the museum.
Staff are still taking donations and inquiries during the closure, and a Museum in the Library Day is scheduled for Saturday, from 10.30am to 2pm, when the public can drop in to discuss any matters relating to the museum.
The museum is due to reopen in the late summer after being closed for major construction work.
The £220,000 access project will include fitting ramps to the outside, the creation of an accessible toilet and a lift to the mezzanine and upper gallery will be installed.
The reception area will be restyled and refurbished and internal redecoration will be carried out.
