A Dundee University design student and his recycled bike are set for an epic charity ride.
Peter Ananin (21) will raise cash for Parkinson’s and cancer charities by riding a bike made from scrap parts from John O’Groats to Land’s End and documenting the trip for a film.
The second-year student, who is from Monymusk in Aberdeenshire, said the seeds of the idea came from his volunteer work with Tayside Recyclers in Douglas Street.
He said, “I had been fixing up bikes for people who wanted to start cycling to work.
“A lot of my family members have been suffering from cancer and in that situation you can be unsure how to help, so that was how it got started.”
Peter’s bike has been created from parts culled from a number of sources.
He said, “I’ve been going round bike shops getting bits, and people in the community have donated parts.
“I need to alter the tyres and I will be carrying spare parts. Hopefully, some local artists will be painting murals on it, too.”
The journey begins on Monday and Peter hopes to make a number of stops along the way.
He said, “I’ve given myself 24 days so I can do community work as I go along.
“A lot of people have someone in a car, but I want the challenge of doing it on my own.
“Mark Beaumont, the round-the world-cyclist, was an inspiration because he is local and some of my friends know him.”
